Chinese New Year 2016

PA invited parent and award winning calligrapher Susan Lam to lead a CNY couplet writing workshop for parents. Participants learned and honed their skill with brush and ink and wrote lucky couplets to put up along with other festive decorations around campus.

Domestic Helpers Open Day

As part of the 2nd annual Domestic Helpers Open Day hosted by the school, HS Show Choir performed "Time," three times. It was a wonderful performance celebrating the lives of the elderly. Two guest choirs were invited for a special performance, one on each evening - Shun On Elderly Community Centre Choir and Melody in Heart Kapok Chorus. Treats were sold during intermission and an offering collected to support Helping Hand. The PA, as part of the ICS community donated funds and volunteered on Domestic Helpers Open Day to show our appreciation of these migrant workers by entertaining them, offering a hot lunch, activity and information booths, clothes, and prizes.

Dr. Esther Su spoke at ICS

ICS Parent Association invited Dr. Esther Fai Wan Su to speak at ICS about parenting from a biblical perspective by bridging faith and life. There were nearly 100 RSVPs so the original venue was changed to the Lu Kao Hwa Theater. Like the eyecare seminar held in September, the talk and information were well received and we hope to invite her back again along with other speakers regarding topics that may be interesting to parents. For more information about books written by Dr. Su, please visit http://www.iaganack.com/

Walktoberfest

Walktoberfest was an enjoyable day out for the family - filled with the opportunity to bless all those in our neighborhood as hundreds from our school community walked up one side of the Siu Lek Yuen Nullah and back on the other. This was followed by food, activity booths, and shopping at the festival all afternoon.

Members of the ExCo were on hand to greet parents, talk and help folks looking for "Re-Uniform" items - secondhand uniforms collected as donations or from Lost and Found. There are still lots of hoody jackets available.

Speaking of Lost and Found, items are stored near the front entrance and parents are welcome to help sort and return those items with names on them. If this is something you'd be interested in helping with, please send us an email.

Eyecare Seminar

An eyecare specialist was invited to speak to parents about the importance of proper eyecare from an early age. Dr. Catherine Chan gave a presentation after Elementary Chapel one morning and also had a Q & A session - most parents had actually prepared questions to ask!

PA hopes to invite more speakers in the future on topics that may be of interest to other parents.

Back to School

We've just about finished the second full week of school, and what a whirlwind it's been! Before school even started a group of parents became Buddy Families with new families to welcome them to the school. A coffee morning and dim sum meal were planned to further their fellowship. On orientation day ExCo members were on hand to participate in a parent panel for new parents to pose questions to or to ask for information pertaining to settling into ICS, and in some cases, Hong Kong. PA Campus representatives were asked to speak at Back to School Nights and second-hand uniforms have been made available on the "Re-uniform" table. This has provided a great opportunity to recycle your students' outgrown uniforms and unclaimed lost and found items.

Our first parent seminar is planned for September 16 after ES Chapel - learn about the importance of proper eye care starting at a young age. All welcome!
