University Fair this Friday Sep 27 and report on recent College Info fellowship

The school is hosting the University Fair for all HS parents and students this Friday, Sep 27 6:30-8:30pm in the Abundant Grace Memorial Gym. There will be information on lots of American schools and there will be talks in the Cafeteria and ICS Chapel 5/F. Look for the announcement on Schoology.

This past Sat, PA supported a group of 12th grade parents who organized a fellowship with the theme of College Info for HS parents. Despite the event being held over a long weekend for Mid-Autumn Festival, the organizers felt blessed that both college counselors and alumni parents committed to come present information on college prep and the application process and to share their experiences of sending their children to school.

We are thankful that HS Principal Brian VanTassel and over 40 parents attended and hopefully gleaned useful info and enjoyed meeting and talking with other parents over lunch and in groups after.
Pastor Brett Hilliard talks about sending his daughter to Baylor U

Ms Farley and Mr Widdifield  presented info and dates to keep in mind
Mrs. Amy Leung talks about sending her son to Wheaton
Q and A with the speakers

Thank you to the G12 parent organizers and speakers!

Mid-Quarter already!

Can you believe it's mid-quarter already?! PA ExCo have had two meetings with HS Student Council Reps and HM John Nelson in attendance as well. Minutes will be posted online after approval at subsequent meetings: ExCo meeting minutes

We want to thank Chris Lo, outgoing Elementary Rep, who has stepped down due to a new baby in the family. We also want to welcome a new Secondary Rep, HS parent, YK Ho. Campus Reps have been meeting with their principals and parents are welcome to join meetings or bring up any concerns to their Campus Reps who you may have met at Back to School Nights and whose info can be found here: ExCo contact info

At Back to School Nights, second-hand uniforms were set out for parents to pick up any items they felt would be useful for their students. These were collected from the Lost and Found and through donations of gently used or outgrown uniforms accepted in the school offices.

Along with students from the Bridges Center, parent volunteers and occasionally students on detention, all chip-in to sort out Lost and Found. It's amazing how many nameless items pile up! Volunteers will try to return jackets and such if there are names written on the tags.

Along with Schoology posts and this blog, we have started a Facebook group as another way to keep in touch and provide a place for parents to communicate easily - please join us! PA Facebook group

We hope to keep our members up to date with PA happenings through our different web presences.

AGM 2012-13 report

The PA held their AGM May 27, 2013

After Schoology and blog announcements, 21 people were in attendance and with 37 proxy forms received.

Minutes from the previous year were reviewed and approved. Finance reports were reviewed as well. A new position was proposed and approved for Financial and Membership Secretary. Outgoing ExCo members were thanked and new ones welcomed after the election. Evening Prayer Group met following the AGM.

If you would like to serve on the ExCo, please contact us. Involvement in the ICS Parent Association allows parents to voice their concerns and ideas. It is also an opportunity for parents to be part of their child’s school life.

Communications Preferences Survey

The Parent Association would like to find out your preferred method of receiving communication or getting updates on the PA and its activities.

Currently we post on Schoology, maintain this blog and occasionally add items of interest to campus newsletters.

Please take this survey - thank you!

Anyone have textbooks they want to sell or need to buy?

If there are any parents who have ordered duplicate textbooks last year for their student and would like to resell or swap, please email what books you have and what you're looking for (title, for what grade, ISBN) to: ICSPAExCo@gmail.com

If there are enough people interested, perhaps we could set up an evening sale/swap event otherwise we can monitor the emails and let parents know if someone has something they're interested in.
